Jason Stokes

 

 

Jason Stokes is one of the most exciting players to ever to wear a Cowboys jersey.   He holds most of the schools' hitting records, including hitting an outstanding twenty-five home runs in 2000.  He was named the Gatorade "National Player of the Year" that year.  The Florida Marlins selected him in the 2nd round of the draft and signed him to a multi-million dollar contract.  Baseball America ranked Stokes the  top power hitter in the 2000 draft.

June 2003 Update: Jupiter Hammerheads First Baseman Jason Stokes

Named TOPPS FSL Player of the Month for June

Jupiter, FL - The TOPPS Company announced Thursday that Jupiter Hammerhead First Baseman Jason Stokes was the Player of the Month for June 2003.  Jason appeared in 23 games for the month, registering 93 plate appearances.  Jason had 31 hits for a .369 batting average, and his nine walks contributed to a .432 on-base percentage.  He hit six home runs and drove in 28 runs, while also scoring 17 runs.  Jason was also outstanding defensively, making just one error on the entire month. 

Jason helped the Jupiter Hammerheads win the first-half FSL East Division Championship, as his team went 18-7 for the month of June and finished the first half with a 42-28 record.  This is Jason’s third year of professional baseball and Stokes resides in Coppell, TX.  He was with Kane County of the Midwest League last season. 

The Topps Company also recognized Stokes last season for his outstanding year with Kane County.  Stokes won three awards from Topps in 2002:

  • 2002 Topps J.G. Spink Minor League Player of the Year

  • 2002 Topps Player-of-the-Year in the Midwest League

  • 2002 Topps Class A All-Star Team

The Florida Marlins drafted Jason in the second round of the 2000 First-year Player Draft.  In 2002 with the Kane County Cougars of the Midwest League, Jason hit .341 with 27 home runs and 75 runs driven in.  He led the entire Marlins’ farm system in home runs for the season and was named Florida Marlins Organizational Player of the Year.  So far this season, Jason is hitting .268 with 13 home runs and an FSL-best 69 RBI.

Sept 2002 Update: Jason Stokes Minor League Player of the Year

Jason played for the Kane County Cougers in the Marlins organization in 2002.   The Sporting News announced its Minor League Baseball awards for the 2002 season, and Cougars’ first baseman, James Stokes, is the Minor League Player of the Year.  These awards will appear, in print, in the September 23rd issue of the Sporting News Magazine, and online at sportingnews.com on September 19, 2002.
